Dear Mom and Dad,

This past week in DiscipleTown, which is the new curriculum we have been using, we began a unit in children’s church called How To Use My Bible. Please help your child remember to bring a Bible to church because he or she will need it! We will learn how to get around in the Bible as well as how to use Bible reference tools such as Bible dictionaries and concordances. Most important, we will challenge your child to begin studying the Bibles on his or her own. You can help encourage this by using the DiscipleTown Table Talker to have some fun-and-easy family discussions at the dinner table. This discussion guide provides three opportunities to connect with your child during the week on the topic of the Bible. Each Table Talker includes a short activity, a Bible verse to read, discussion questions, and an application suggestion. There is no preparation required (other than having some Bibles nearby). Table talkers will be handed out starting next week.

If you’d like to follow up about this past lesson, here are some questions you could ask to draw out some thoughts on what your child experienced last Sunday:

1) How is the Bible like a library? (Both are a collection of books)

2) What makes the Bible different from every other book? (God wrote the Bible)

3) What does B.I.B.L.E. stand for? (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)

Thank you for the opportunity and honor to invest in your child’s life. Next Sunday, we will take a tour of the Bible and learn how to look up Bible verses. Don’t forget to have your son or daughter bring a Bible. (If he or she doesn’t have one—no worries—we’ll have extras to borrow!)

Also, continue to work with your child on the BC Bible Challenge. This weeks memory verse is Psalms 1:1-2. I know that this is a long verse so as long as they memorize the first one, they will be fine for the challenge.

Making Disciples for Jesus,

Pastor Phillip

you might want to check out the new renovations done in the JAM classroom. Mrs. Kristie has added a chalkboard wall, a magnetic board and soon a new felt board. These changes were already a big hit last night and we are sure that they will continue to allow us to minister to your toddler-age children more effective and efficiently. Thanks Mrs. Kristie.

With the digital age among us, even I am guilty of picking up my computer or my iPad to look up scriptures rather than turn through my Bible. I have decided to do something about that…Kingdom Kids is beginning a Bethel Bible Challenge from now through the month March. During this period we will challenge kids on their level to bring their Bibles to church, read a certain amount of scriptures over a 60 day period, memorize certain key verses and be able to quote all 66 books of the Bible.

I hope you will partner with me and make this a fun, but yet rewarding challenge for all of our kids. Bible memorization will hide His Word in their hearts so that when the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy they will have a weapon that no man can take from them. Keep your eye open for more info to come forward as we begin this cool challenge.

… I hope you will enjoy. For years now I have been wanting to get started on a blog that would connect Kingdom Kids, our church, our parents and myself together so that we could communicate and pass information along as we felt we needed to. Well, this is it…and here we go.

Within this blog you will soon be able to read weekly ministry updates and announcements as well as any and everything that is on my heart and I feel compelled to share with you as parents ands friends.

As a brief introduction, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Phillip Sexton. I am very fortunate to be able to serve you as the children’s pastor of Bethel Church. I say that because I feel truly humbled by the fact that God would use someone like me to serve such precious people (the kids) in His eyes. It is a great honor. I have been married now for almost 16 years to my best friend, Jennifer, and we have two of the greatest kids I could ever think of, Christian and Ashlyn (of course I am bias). I often say that God must have known that I would never grow up and that’s why He called me into children’s ministry!

I hope you enjoy this site and let’s use it as another tool in our toolbox to grow together and to reach the next generation of soldiers for Christ.
